Dunlop Blue Response TG — 9.6/10 (überragend)
The clear test winner dominates in both wet (9.9) and dry (9.7). Outstanding grip on wet and dry asphalt, precise steering, excellent lane-change stability. The only weakness: very high rolling resistance (6/10) and fuel consumption — the trade-off for maximum safety.

2. Vredestein Ultrac+ — 8.0/10 (sehr gut)
Strong wet performance with the shortest wet braking distance (35.5 m). Safe handling characteristics, though somewhat imprecise and sluggish in dry cornering. Slightly elevated rolling resistance and faint tyre squeal.

3. Michelin Primacy 5 — 7.8/10 (gut)
A well-balanced tyre with harmonious dynamics, excellent aquaplaning protection, and one of the best noise scores (10/10). However, longer dry braking distances and a comfort weakness from low damping hold it back. At €135, it is also the most expensive tyre in the test.

4. Falken e.Ziex — 7.7/10 (gut)
The comfort champion (10/10) and the best EV tyre recommendation thanks to strong efficiency. Safe but somewhat uninspiring handling. Longer wet braking distances and unstable wet cornering behaviour are the trade-offs.

5. Firestone Roadhawk 2 — 7.7/10 (gut)
Dynamic wet performance with excellent aquaplaning protection (10/10 cross-aquaplaning). Decent dry cornering grip, but sluggish steering response and poor efficiency drag it down.

6. Continental EcoContact 6 — 7.5/10 (gut)
The efficiency king: lowest rolling resistance (5.8 kg/t), 356 km EV range, and the quietest interior. But the optimised-for-efficiency construction delivers clear wet grip deficits — wet braking is 6.4 m longer than the Dunlop. Best choice for EV owners who prioritise range over outright safety.

7. Cooper Summer — 7.4/10 (gut)
The newcomer from the Goodyear stable offers safe, predictable handling on wet and dry roads with excellent aquaplaning protection. Held back by the longest dry braking distances in the test (37.5 m) and elevated rolling resistance.

8. Giti Synergy H2 — 7.1/10 (gut)
Despite its impressive triple-A EU label, the Giti finishes last. Long wet braking distances (43.8 m — over 8 m more than the Vredestein), sluggish handling, and borderline grip. Comparatively comfortable, but the label promises far more than the tyre delivers in real-world testing.

Key findings

The central theme of this test is the efficiency vs. safety trade-off. The data shows that a 10% improvement in rolling resistance costs roughly 18% longer wet braking distances. The Continental EcoContact 6 achieves 39 km more EV range than the Dunlop, but pays for it with 6.4 m longer wet braking — a gap that can mean the difference between a near-miss and a collision.

Two brand-new market entrants debut here: Dunlop Blue Response TG, the first Dunlop tyre developed under Sumitomo/Falken after the brand rights changed hands in 2025, and Cooper Summer, which benefits from Goodyear technology after the Cooper acquisition. Both deliver solid results in their first outings.

The Giti paradox deserves special attention: a tyre carrying the best possible EU label ratings (A/A/A) in rolling resistance, wet grip, and noise finishes last in a real-world comparison. This is a powerful reminder that standardised label tests and real-world magazine tests measure fundamentally different things.

Full results of the test are here ->

Auto Motor und Sport tested 8 summer tyres in size 195/55 R16 on a Hyundai i20 (conventional) and Hyundai Inster (electric).
